US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz spoke to reporters after meeting with the Ukrainian delegation on Russia-Ukraine peace talks. Ukraine agreed to the US-proposed 30-day ceasefire proposal in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday. The US agreed to provide Ukraine with military assistance and intelligence after that meeting.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio played a leading role in the meeting. After the meeting, he told reporters, “The ball is in the court now.” The US Secretary of State said that the ceasefire proposal will now be taken to Moscow. Marco Rubio said that he hopes the Russians will agree to the ceasefire. However, if they do not agree to it, “we will understand, unfortunately, what obstacles there are to establishing peace there,” he said.

Meanwhile, Trump told reporters at the White House that Ukraine has agreed to it (ceasefire). I hope President Putin will agree too.’

The European Union (EU) has welcomed Ukraine’s decision to agree to a ceasefire. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said it was a positive development. The move took Ukraine another step towards a just and lasting peace.
