Ramadan begins on Sunday

The moon of the holy month of Ramadan has been sighted in the sky of Bangladesh. The fasting period will begin tomorrow, Sunday. This decision was made at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee chaired by AFM Khalid Hossain, Advisor to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, at the meeting room of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram on Saturday evening. This information was given in a press release of the Islamic Foundation.

As the moon of the month of Ramadan has been sighted, religious devotees will offer Tarawih prayers tonight. They will eat Sehri at night and will keep fasting from tomorrow. Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims. After this month of self-restraint, religious Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.

Meanwhile, fasting has begun in Saudi Arabia today as the moon of the holy month of Ramadan was sighted on Friday evening. Along with Saudi Arabia, fasting has also begun in Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates today. However, since the moon was not sighted in Malaysia and Brunei, the holy fasting will begin in these countries tomorrow, Sunday.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Hijri calendar. The Hijri calendar has 354 or 355 days. Fasting during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam and is obligatory for all healthy Muslims. However, there is a relaxation in fasting for young children, sick people, travelers, pregnant women, breastfeeding women, or menstruating women.
