Police have arrested a farmer named Joynal Khandaker (48) on charges of cultivating marijuana in Dhunat upazila of Bogra. He was arrested from his house in the Ichamati River char area of Mohanpur village of the upazila on Saturday (March 1) morning. A 4-kg marijuana plant was seized during the arrest. Joynal Khandaker is the son of Monsher Ali of Mohanpur village of the upazila.
Locals said that farmer Joynal Khandaker was cultivating marijuana along with chillies in the Ichamati River char. Upon receiving the information, the police conducted a raid and seized a marijuana plant from his field. At the same time, farmer Joynal Khandaker was arrested from his house. The police filed a case against Joynal under the Narcotics Act on Saturday morning in this incident.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhunat police station Saidul Alam told Kaler Kantho that Joynal Khandaker was arrested and sent to jail as part of an anti-drug operation.
