The protests have caused traffic jams from the Dhaka-Mymensingh Bhogra Bypass intersection in the south to Board Bazar and to the north to Chandana Chowrasta, a traffic police official said. Police said fellow garment workers are protesting at the Bogra Bypass intersection in Gazipur city, alleging that a sick worker of ‘Panaroma Garments’ was not given leave after he died.

The workers’ protests have stopped traffic on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway since 8:30 am on Monday, creating a long queue of vehicles in an area of ​​at least 3 kilometers. Ashok Kumar Pal, ADC (Traffic) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, said, “As far as I know, a worker of Panorama Garments in the bypass intersection area fell ill on Sunday. Despite his illness, the garment authorities refused to give him leave to seek medical care. He later died. When this news spread among the workers, the factory workers started protesting on Monday morning.

Stating that law enforcement agencies are working to control the situation, Traffic Police Officer Ashok Kumar said that the workers’ protest was going on till 10:15 am. However, the police officer could not reveal the name and identity of the deceased worker.
