Palestinian filmmaker Basel Adara’s ‘No Other Land’ won the Best Documentary Feature Award at the 97th Oscars. It tells the story of the Palestinians’ struggle to save their community. It has spread the story of the blood-soaked dream of a nation seeking freedom around the world.
This documentary was jointly directed by Israeli and Palestinian filmmakers. It tells the story of Basel Adara’s life experiences as co-director. Adara risks arrest while filming the destruction of her city. The story shows that the Israeli army is destroying her city in the southern part of the West Bank to turn it into a military training zone. Although Adara’s appeal was initially ignored, she later befriended a Jewish Israeli journalist. The journalist helped her tell her story to the world.
Adara became emotional while accepting the award on the Oscar stage. “I became a father about two months ago,” she said. “I dream that my daughter will not have to live the same life I did. A life where she lives in fear of attacks, violence, home vandalism, and forced displacement.”
