The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced VAT exemption on several essential products to keep the market stable during the holy month of Ramadan. The products on the list include mustard oil, atta, flour, pulses, LP gas, biscuits, salt and hot spices, etc. These products have been exempted at the production stage and some products at the trader stage.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) issued an order in this regard on Monday (March 2). A senior source in the NBR confirmed the matter.

According to the NBR notification, rapeseed oil, colza seed oil, canola oil will be exempted from VAT at the production stage until June 30, 2025. Mustard oil will also be exempted from VAT at the production stage, for which no time limit was given in the order.

Apart from this, VAT has been given to the products produced in the country at the business level, which are biscuits, salt, flour, semolina, chili powder, coriander, turmeric, ginger, rice bran oil, sunflower oil, rapeseed oil, colza seed oil, canola oil, pulses or dal-like food grains. Subject to conditions, LP gas and natural gas are also exempted from VAT at the business level. Those who import and sell to the consumers themselves will not get the benefit of VAT exemption.
