The BCS (Health) Cadre Specialist Doctors Forum is going on strike over two demands. This information was given in a press release signed by Dr. Mohammad Al Amin on behalf of the forum on Friday (March 7).

It said that specialist doctors working in government hospitals in Bangladesh have announced a program demanding fair promotions and elimination of all forms of discrimination. The strike will be observed from 10 am to 12 pm every day on March 8, 9 and 10 at the initiative of the BCS (Health) Specialist Forum and with the support of all medical societies.

During this time, the doctors will hold a silent protest in front of the hospital holding banners. However, the emergency department will be outside the scope of the program so that emergency treatment of patients is not disrupted. The release also warned that if the demands are not met, a full-day strike will be observed for an indefinite period from March 11.

The two-point demand is – to improve the quality of medical education and maintain the global recognition of the MBBS degree, ensure the prompt and impartial promotion of all specialist doctors eligible for promotion and eliminate intra- and inter-cadre discrimination. Ensure fair remuneration by promoting all qualified doctors who have obtained the third grade to the second and first grade after a specified period.
