Aminul Mridha (28) is one of the six robbers arrested in connection with the robbery of a gold shop in the capital’s Banasree. His home is in Baufal upazila of Patuakhali. His father’s name is Iqbal Mridha. Aminul was a member of the banned Upazila Chhatra League. Aminul was arrested in connection with the robbery earlier. Aminul’s criminal activities came to light when the robbers were presented before the media on Saturday (March 8).

According to information from locals, Aminul had been arrested in connection with multiple robberies before. The police last arrested 7 robbers, including Aminul, on November 9, 2023. Aminul was the supplier of weapons in robberies at various places. He even confessed in his statement to the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court of Patuakhali, mentioning his name as the supplier of weapons.

It is learned that although Aminul was active in Awami League politics during the day, he became a violent robber at night. He is one of the members of the inter-departmental bandit group. In Baufal, he was sheltered by some influential leaders of the Awami League. In this regard, Baufal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atiqul Islam said, “Aminul is a professional bandit and he was involved in the politics of the banned Chhatra League.”
