Garment workers have lifted their blockade after seven hours of protests over the death of a female colleague in a car accident in the capital’s Banani, giving an ultimatum to the police. Traffic has resumed. The protesters lifted the blockade around 1:30 pm on Monday on the condition that the police arrest the perpetrators within 48 hours and provide compensation.
This morning, a garment worker named Minara Akhter was killed after being hit by a car in the Chairman Bari area of Banani. Another garment worker named Sumaiya Akhter was injured at the time. The injured has been admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital.
After the incident, garment factory workers blocked roads and staged a protest in protest. This caused severe traffic jams in the Banani, Mohakhali and Gulshan areas. The elevated expressway was also brought to a standstill.
