The child who was raped while visiting her sister’s house in Magura has opened her eyes, said Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar, deputy press secretary to Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus. He made this known at a press briefing organized by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road in the capital on Monday (March 10).

Responding to a question from journalists, Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar said that the child, who is undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), has opened her eyes. The child’s mother has filed a case alleging that the eight-year-old child was raped while visiting her sister’s house. The child’s brother-in-law, sister-in-law, mother-in-law and brother-in-law have been arrested and remanded. The Magura court has granted seven days’ remand to the child’s sister-in-law, and five days’ remand to each of the child’s husband, mother-in-law and brother-in-law.

The child was brought to the 250-bed Magura Hospital in an unconscious state by his sister-in-law at around 11:30 am on Thursday. Later, the child’s mother went to the hospital. That afternoon, he was sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. From there, he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday night. Then, he was put on life support on Friday night. The critically ill child was transferred from the PICU of Dhaka Medical College Hospital to the Combined Military Hospital on Saturday evening.
