Regional languages in a global context

The Bengali language is rich in thousands of years of tradition. This language of diverse cultures and colorful professions has countless dialects. Dialects are of special importance to linguists. Every regional language worldwide has its own characteristics.

The language of any region is one of the anthropological elements of its regional identity. Based on a dialect, a literary language develops under political, religious or literary influence. The need to use local language resources in literary creation is immense. Foreign words used in regional languages attract more attention in linguistic and anthropological research than Arabic-Persian and other foreign words used in literature for various reasons.

About 88 percent of the world’s total speakers speak regional languages. The languages of three special regions of Bangladesh have made it to this list. Chittagong (96th), Sylhet (111th) and Rangpur (120th).

The diversity of regional languages is our pride, our wealth. Because we don’t understand, because we can’t grasp it, we sometimes find regional words ironic or funny. But when we develop a love for the language, it no longer seems ironic. The smile no longer comes.
