The court has ordered the freezing of 42.666868 shares of 36 companies owned by Gemcon Group owner Kazi Nabil Ahmed, former MP from Jessore-3 constituency, his father late Kazi Shahed Ahmed, mother Amina Ahmed, two brothers Kazi Anis Ahmed, Kazi Inam and their stakeholders. The face value of these shares is Tk 604.468 crore. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Ghalib issued the order on Thursday following a separate application by the ACC.
Deputy Director of the ACC Rezaul Karim applied for the freezing of these shares. In his application, he said that the investigation shows that the owners of Gemcon Group and other stakeholders, their various affiliates and their family members own 42.668868 shares with a face value of Tk 604.468 crore, which the accused are trying to transfer. If this is done, all the objectives including filing a case in the continuation of the investigation, filing a charge sheet in the court, confiscating the property acquired from the proceeds of crime in favor of the government as part of the sentence after the trial by the court will be defeated.
It is necessary to freeze these shares and all profits derived from the shares. Earlier, on February 18, the court banned Nabil Ahmed of the Gemcon Group and his family members from leaving the country.
