The Election Commission (EC) has written to the National Consensus Commission (NCC) expressing its disagreement with some of the recommendations of the Electoral Reform Commission. The letter was sent to the Vice-Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Ali Riaz. This opinion was given by Election Commission (EC) Secretary Akhtar Ahmed on Monday.
He said that a letter has been sent to the NCC expressing its disagreement with 9-10 recommendations of the Electoral Reform Commission. The recommendation of the reform commission has called for an independent commission to delimit the boundaries of parliamentary seats. The Election Commission has said that it is not necessary. The EC Secretary said that the mention of a delimitation commission has been made, we have said that it is not necessary. We have given a proposal to the cabinet. That is sufficient.
He said that the number of seats is going abroad and coming to the cities. That is why the number of seats is going towards the cities. Instead of doing this, it should be done considering the voters, population, geographical location, and regional integrity. It was also said to be certified within 48 hours. We think that it is not necessary. The Returning Officer is not giving the results unless he is satisfied with the election.
