The long-awaited match is in the Champions League play-offs. Many had Real Madrid and Manchester City as the betting horses for the final of the prestigious European club football tournament. However, the two heavyweights are meeting in the play-offs of the new format of the Champions League. 

Which means simply, either Real Madrid or Manchester City will be eliminated before the start of the round of sixteen of this year’s Champions League. The draw was held on Friday ahead of the play-offs. That confirmed the fight between these two teams.

After a long group stage, the Champions League awaits the second round. In the new format, the top 8 teams from the group stage are already waiting in the Round of Sixteen. 16 teams will fight in the play-offs for the remaining 8 places.

Manchester City, who had been struggling throughout the group stage, were in doubt about their place in the play-offs. They survived the tournament with a stunning win in the final round. On the other hand, record 15-time champions Real Madrid easily qualified for the play-offs despite failing to advance directly to the second round.

However, there was a chance to spread the heat in the remaining draws in this phase, but that did not happen. Juventus got Dutch club PSV Eindhoven. And the two heavyweight clubs Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich also got easy opponents. PSG’s opponents are Basel and Bayern Munich got Celtic.

In the other play-offs, Atalanta will play Club Brugge. Monaco will play Benfica and Borussia Dortmund will play Sporting Lisbon.
