A father has been accused of shooting his daughter to death over her addiction to the social media platform TikTok. The incident took place on Tuesday (January 28) in the southwestern Pakistani city of Quetta.
Father Anwarul Haque had been living in the United States with his family for about 25 years. But recently, he found his daughter’s activity on TikTok objectionable. After that, they returned to Pakistan. The father accused in the Jigawad murder said that he did not shoot. Someone else did.
Police suspect the murder may have been an honor killing. Such killings have increased in Pakistan in recent years. Honor killings are a type of killing carried out by relatives. They argue that the killing was done to protect the family’s honor.
Investigating officers said they have recovered the girl’s mobile phone, but it is locked. The girl’s uncle has also been arrested on charges of involvement in the murder.
