The Election Commission is making major changes to the voter list law to further expand the voting opportunities of the youth. The EC has taken initiative to vote in the thirteenth parliamentary elections on January 5 next year.

Meanwhile, the concerned committee has finalized the draft law and rules. The meeting will be sent to the Law Ministry with approval. According to the revised provision, the Election Commission will be able to update the voter list at any time of the year and publish the final list.

Currently, the draft on January 2 and the final voter list on March 2 is mandatory. If the new provision is implemented, this obligation will not be.

EC officials said that in the new system, at least 1 lakh 20 thousand young voters will be able to vote in the next national election. So far more than 1 lakh 3 thousand new voters have been registered in the current update. Most of them are young.

However, EC officials have advised the announcement of the Jatiya Sangsad election schedule after January 2 next year to ensure the franchise of the youth. Otherwise, many new voters can be deprived of franchise.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission is preparing for the national election between December and February. If all goes well, young voters are expected to ensure the opportunity to exercise their franchise in the next national election.
