Atiqul, 10 others appear before tribunal

Former Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, Awami League Education Secretary Shahinur Mia, and Uttara West Police Station Awami League President Monowar Islam Chowdhury, along with 10 others, have been produced before the International Crimes Tribunal in the July-August massacre case in the capital’s Uttara. The accused were produced from Kashimpur and Keraniganj jails after 10 am on Sunday (March 9).
The other accused are: Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League Organizing Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun Mondal, Uttara Sector 6 Awami League President Bashir Uddin, Metropolitan North Ward 1 Jubo League President Delwar Hossain Rubel, OC Mashikur Rahman, Constable Hossain Ali, AC Jabed Iqbal and Omar Ali.
Earlier, the tribunal had ordered the arrest of former Mayor Atiqul Islam and 10 others in the case at different times and sent them to jail. The investigation report against them is scheduled to be submitted today. Former Mayor Atiq and other Awami League leaders are involved in the killing of more than 200 students and public in the Uttara area in July-August.
