In response to ongoing protests by students demanding the conversion of Government Titumir College into an independent university, four platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to restore order.

The students’ actions, which include blocking both roads and railway lines, have disrupted transportation in the capital.

The deployment was announced by BGB’s Public Relations Officer Md. Shariful Islam Monday evening. He stated that students from Titumir College had blocked the railway line near Mohakhali, causing significant disruptions to train services.

The blockade began at 3:40pm when students halted railway operations in the Mohakhali area. As a result, train traffic came to a standstill, with some trains forced to reverse course. Currently, road traffic between Mohakhali and Jahangir Gate remains closed due to the continued protest, exacerbating congestion and inconvenience for commuters.

To address the situation and ensure public safety, the BGB has mobilised four platoons to manage the unrest and facilitate the restoration of normalcy. Their presence aims to de-escalate tensions while maintaining law and order amidst the demonstrations.
