Bangladesh Railway gatekeepers and gatemen have announced to block the railway tracks and go on indefinite strike from the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday on March 24 to demand permanent employment. The employees organized a protest program and a human chain at the Railway Bhawan at 10:30 am on Wednesday (March 19) to demand permanent employment.

The Director General of Railways decided that the demand for permanent employment of 1,505 gatekeepers and gatemen of the anti-discrimination Bangladesh Railway Eastern and Western Regions project is reasonable. At the meeting, the central representatives of the gatekeepers and gatemen said that since they have been working in the railway for eight years and are experienced, the Public Service Commission will issue the necessary order in this regard within a week.

While holding a protest program at the Railway Bhawan on Wednesday demanding permanent employment, the employees said that although the offer letter was supposed to be given to us on November 1 last year, it has not been given so far. In the meeting, we were told, “Like the permanent recruitment process, out of 40,000 candidates, 1,889 passed the exam and joined the project as gatekeepers and gatemen. Currently, 1,505 people are working. You have become eight years of experience. Your jobs will be made permanent soon.”
