Legendary boxer George Foreman is no more. His family has confirmed the death of the two-time heavyweight world champion. Foreman was 76 years old at the time of his death. The world-renowned American athlete was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
On Saturday (March 22), his family said through his official Instagram account, “Our hearts are broken today. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. He passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was a devoted pastor, a loving husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. His life was full of unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.
Foreman was born on January 10, 1949, in Marshall, Texas. He grew up with his mother and six siblings in a remote area of the southern United States. Before becoming a professional boxer, he caused a stir by winning 37 consecutive matches. Then, at the age of 19, he announced his emergence by winning gold at the Mexico Olympics. Then, in 1973, he defeated the previously undefeated champion Joe Frazier in Kingston, Jamaica to become the heavyweight champion.
On October 30, 1974, George Foreman entered the ring with the legendary Muhammad Ali in the ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ at the Tata Rafael Stadium in Kinshasa, Congo. That famous fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman is etched in everyone’s memory.
It is worth noting that Foreman won a total of 76 matches in his professional boxing career. 68 of them were by knockout, which is almost double that of Muhammad Ali.
