Usually the opposite. Others bought franchisees from the Cricket Board. But this time the board itself bought the franchise in the league of other countries.

New Zealand cricket is the name ‘first’. The board has signed an agreement to buy a franchise in the United States Major League cricket. New Zealand Cricket reported on Wednesday. They reached an agreement with American organization True North Sports Ventures (TNS). This agreement will be a new franchise team in Major League cricket in the 2021 season. NZC is called ‘a first agreement’, where the full member of the International Cricket Council will directly partner with a professional franchise league in a country.

TNS is choosing the city for this new team-considering the names of Toronto and Atlanta. The NZC will provide ‘high-performer and operational support’ in the tournament. These will include coaching, management and support staff. NZC chief executive Scott Winnink said, “As the franchise cricket is increasing around the world, the NZC needs to be adapted accordingly, so that our cricket structure may survive.”
