The local Awami League’s former member of parliament, Alhaj Shafiqul Azam Khan Chanchal, placed government blankets (winter clothes) and various sports items for the helpless people of the area in the auditorium of Jhenaidah’s Maheshpur Upazila Parishad. While secretly taking away 500 pieces of blankets (10 sacks) in a three-wheeler early in the morning, the former caretaker of the auditorium, Sohel Rana (45), was caught by the police.
Sohel Rana, who was caught with the blankets, stated that he was taking the blankets to Kotchandpur in the three-wheeler. He mentioned that the police arrested him right after he exited the auditorium with the blankets.
According to a source from the police station, Sohel Rana was caught while stealing 10 sacks of blankets from the auditorium. Later, the police recovered 4 more sacks of blankets and various sports items from a room inside the auditorium.
The complainant, Anarul Alam, the acting administrative officer of the Upazila Parishad, said, “I had been noticing that various items, including blankets, were being stolen from my auditorium, so I filed a case against the former caretaker, Sohel Rana.”
Maheshpur Upazila Executive Officer Yasmin Monira stated that Sohel Rana, the former caretaker of the auditorium, was caught while stealing 500 pieces of blankets and various items. Later, upon my arrival, more blankets and sports items were recovered from the auditorium.
