The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Abdus Sobhan Golap, a special assistant to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on charges of acquiring illegal assets worth hundreds of crores of taka. The information was given by the agency’s Director General Md. Akhter Hossain in a regular briefing on Wednesday (March 19).

He said that Abdus Sobhan Golap bought 9 flats and houses in Queens, New York, USA, through abuse of power, irregularities and corruption as a member of parliament. Its price in Bangladeshi taka is 320 million taka. The case statement says that the accused Golap is in possession of assets worth 683 million taka, 275 thousand 665 taka, other than known income. In addition, he has 97 million taka in his own and related bank accounts.

Earlier, on January 19, the court ordered the attachment of the movable and immovable assets of former member of parliament Abdus Sobhan Golap, his wife Gulshan Ara Mia, son Ivan Sobhan Mia and daughter Anisha Golap Mia. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain issued the order in response to the ACC’s application. The court also ordered the freezing of bank accounts in their names.

Incidentally, on August 25, law enforcement agencies arrested Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap from a house in West Nakhalpara.
