The High Court has fixed the bail hearing of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in the sedition case after the Eid and vacation holidays. On Sunday (March 23), following the application of Chinmoy Das’ lawyer, a High Court bench of Justice Md. Atowar Rahman and Justice Md. Ali Rezar fixed April 23 for the hearing.
The Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge rejected Chinmoy’s bail application on January 2. Then, Chinmoy Das applied for bail in the High Court on January 12.
The High Court issued a rule on his bail on February 4. Earlier, on November 26 last year, a clash broke out in the Chittagong court premises over the rejection of bail for Chinmoy Krishna Das, who was arrested in a sedition case. During this, lawyer Saiful Islam was beaten and hacked to death. After his bail was rejected in the sedition case, Chinmoy Krishna Das was taken to jail on November 26 last year.
A sedition case was filed against Chinmoy Krishna Das in Chittagong on October 31 last year for insulting the national flag. 18 other people were accused in the case. Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested in Dhaka on November 25 in this case.
