On Sunday night, around 10:30 pm, miscreants shot a gold trader named Anwar Hossain in Banasree and robbed him of 200 gold bars and one lakh taka. Earlier, at 8:30 pm, a group of 10-12 people practiced with country-made weapons in Dhanmondi. In addition, several robberies and snatchings have occurred in different parts of the capital in the last two-three days. The increase in robberies and snatchings in the city at night has spread anxiety and fear among the city residents.
Three specialized units of the police have been deployed to prevent snatching, said Bangladesh Police Inspector General (IGP) Baharul Alam, saying that snatchings have increased at night. There has also been an increase in snatchings during the day. We have taken notice of the matter. We have decided to take special measures.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police, RAB and Anti-Terrorism Unit will conduct joint patrols. I hope it will be implemented from today (Monday). We will see if this improves. Otherwise, we will have to go for another strategy. IGP Baharul Alam also said that a group does not want a stable environment to remain in Bangladesh. There may be political motives behind it.
