Three people, including a child and a woman, were killed in a collision between an ambulance and an engine-driven van in Jhikargachha, Jessore. Another person was injured in the collision. UNB reported that the accident occurred in front of the Nabinagar Molla filling station on the Jessore-Benapole highway in the upazila at around 6:15 am on Wednesday (March 19).
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Navaran Highway Police Station Rokonuzzaman said that the ambulance was heading towards Jessore from Benapole. At that time, a passenger engine-driven van was coming from the opposite direction. The head-on collision occurred at that time. Three passengers of the engine-driven van were killed on the spot and another passenger was seriously injured.
Although the ambulance was seized, its driver fled, he said. OC Rokonuzzaman said that Jhikargachha Police Station and Navaran Highway Police Station reached the spot immediately after the incident. Legal action is underway in the incident. He also said that the names of the dead and injured could not be immediately identified till the time of writing this report.
