A group of people have taken up positions at Shahbagh Police Station demanding the release of a person arrested on charges of harassing a female student on the Dhaka University campus. They have been in front of the police station since Wednesday night. The people were still there till the time of writing this report at 9 am on Thursday, said Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Khalid Mansur.

Shahbagh Police Station arrested Mustafa Asif (Arnab), an assistant binder at the university’s central library, yesterday evening on charges of harassing a female student. The victim of the harassment first complained to the Dhaka University Proctor’s Office in this regard and later filed a case at Shahbagh Police Station.

A group of people gathered at Shahbagh Police Station after midnight yesterday demanding the release of Asif, a university employee arrested on charges of harassing a female student. A group of people have been at the police station since last night demanding his release after the arrest of Mustafa Asif. They are still there.

In this regard, Dhaka University Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said, the man harassed the student on the street by taking her clothes. The student first posted about it on social media and later complained to the proctor’s office. Later in the afternoon, the students identified the accused and brought him to the proctor’s office. At that time, the man confessed to harassing the student. Later, he was sent to Shahbagh Police Station and the library was informed about the matter.
