Saima, a resident of Patharpara area of Sreepur upazila in Gazipur, used to have a normal life. Her married life with her husband, Jamir Ali, was happy. Within a few years, a daughter was born to them. But that child was disabled from birth, and from that moment on, Saima’s life began to suffer.
Immediately after the birth of her daughter, Jamir Ali migrated abroad in the hope of restoring the financial stability of the family. Although the family initially felt relieved, the situation gradually changed. Saima claims that after going abroad, her husband stopped checking up on her and stopped sending her expenses. At the same time, the behavior of the people in her in-laws’ house started changing, neglecting and torturing her began.
Now Saima is also involved in a dispute with her father-in-law, Jain Uddin, over land. She said, “My father bought 10 kathas of land from my father-in-law about 22 years ago, but that land has not been handed over to him to this day. On the contrary, I am being threatened to leave the house for demanding space, and I have even been beaten up. I want a fair trial.’
Saima has complained to the police station several times about these issues, but there has been no resolution. Finally, on the 13th of this month, she filed a complaint with the Sripur police station, making her father-in-law the main accused. The officer-in-charge (OC) of the Sripur police station said, ‘We have received the complaint. An ASI has been assigned to investigate the matter. Action will be taken against the culprits after investigation.’
