A truck driver was killed in a head-on collision between two trucks in Kalihati, Tangail. Three more people were injured in the accident. The injured have been rescued and admitted to Tangail General Hospital. The accident took place at around 7 am on Thursday (March 20) in the Hatia area of the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway. The identities of the deceased and injured could not be immediately ascertained.
It is learnt that a potato-laden truck leaving from North Bengal and another rice-laden truck leaving from Dhaka reached Hatia area in the early hours of the morning, when the two trucks collided head-on. The driver of the rice-laden truck was killed on the spot. Three others, including the other driver and assistant, were injured in the incident. Meanwhile, a long traffic jam was created on the highway after the accident. Later, after receiving information, Jamuna Bridge East Police Station and Fire Service rescued the dead and injured.
In this regard, SI Taherul Islam of Jamuna Bridge East Police Station said that the body of the deceased rice-laden truck driver has been recovered from the scene. The injured have been rescued and sent to Tangail Medical College Hospital.
