Earthquakes were felt in various places including Dhaka and Sylhet. The tremor was felt at 11:36:29 am on Wednesday (February 5). This information was confirmed by Md. Rubaiyat Kabir, officer-in-charge of the Earthquake Observation and Research Center of the Meteorological Department.
He said that it is considered a moderate earthquake. Its magnitude was 5.6 on the Richter scale. No immediate information was received about the damage caused by the earthquake. In this regard, earthquakes were felt four times in different parts of the country in the last 10 days.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS), a US-based earthquake survey organization, said that the epicenter of the earthquake was the Yaripok area near Imphal, the capital of Manipur, India. The distance from the epicenter to Dhaka was 449 kilometers. The depth of the earthquake, which occurred 44 kilometers east of Yaripok, was 10 kilometers below the surface.
The USGS also said that it was felt in several places in India, including Manipur. Apart from this, its tremors were felt in several places in Bangladesh, including Chittagong, Dhaka, Gazipur, Kishoreganj, Mymensingh, and Sylhet.
