An earthquake was felt in various parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka. The earthquake was felt at 6:40:25 am on Tuesday (February 25). However, there was no immediate report of damage. Rubayet Kabir, officer-in-charge of the Earthquake Observation and Research Center of the Meteorological Department, confirmed the matter.
He said that the magnitude of the tremor was 5.1 on the Richter scale. It was a moderate earthquake. The source of the earthquake was the Bay of Bengal adjacent to West Bengal and Odisha in India. As a result, the coastal districts were more affected. The origin was 501 kilometers away from Bangladesh.
It was felt in Bangladesh to a very low degree. However, it was felt more in the coastal areas of West Bengal and Odisha in India.
