The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has decided to install mandatory Electronic Fiscal Device (EFD) or Sales Data Controller (SDC) machines in all VAT-eligible hotels and restaurants located along the country’s highways. NBR Public Relations Officer Md. Al Amin Sheikh gave this information on Sunday.
According to the NBR, conscious consumers are continuously complaining that VAT is not being properly deposited in the government treasury as electronic VAT invoices are not issued in all hotels and restaurants located along the highways. Business activities are carried out 24 hours a day in restaurants on the highways. Many do not deposit VAT properly even though they collect it.
Therefore, in order to collect VAT properly, the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue recently issued instructions to install EFD/SDC machines in all hotels and restaurants located along the highways of the country, said Md. Al Amin Sheikh.
In that context, in a letter issued by the VAT Implementation Division of the NBR, urgent instructions have been given to all field-level commissioners to mandatorily install EFD/SDC machines in hotels and restaurants located on highways and regularly monitor daily transactions to collect the appropriate amount of VAT.
