The National Consensus Commission has met with the Khilafat Majlis and the Labour Party as part of its dialogue with various political parties. The leaders have demanded that elections not be held before the Awami League is tried for genocide.
After the dialogue on Saturday (March 22), Labour Party Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Iran said that his party agreed with 147 of the 166 recommendations of the Consensus Commission. He also said that he partially disagreed with some of the remaining 19 and completely disagreed with some.
Mostafizur Rahman Iran said that they suggested increasing the term of parliament from four years to five years as before. In addition, they opposed the provision that a person cannot be the prime minister more than twice and instead gave their opinion in favor of joining the government twice in a row. On the other hand, the Khilafat Majlis delegation said that no law should be made that goes against the Quran and Sunnah.
