BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has called for holding elections through a democratic process to build a new Bangladesh. He said, the date and month of the elections should be brought forward. Those who are looking for a second way are working against the sacrifice of the people of the country. He said this while speaking as the chief guest at an exchange of views with journalists and an iftar mahfil at a community center in Chittagong city on Saturday evening. The program was organized by the Chittagong Metropolitan BNP.
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, “We have been agitating for 16 years to return the ownership of the people of Bangladesh. The main vehicle for returning the ownership is elections. The main vehicle for moving to a democratic process is a government elected by the people’s votes, a parliament. There is no second way to make this change.”
In response to a question about rumors that BNP is assisting the Awami League in rehabilitating, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, “A party is spreading propaganda to damage the popularity of BNP. Those who are spreading propaganda have no ideology. They are spreading new statements in the market. BNP is the most affected party by the Awami League-led government. Begum Khaleda Zia and leaders and workers of every level of the party have been subjected to imprisonment and torture. I myself have been to prison several times. My family has also been affected. Therefore, the allegations of rehabilitating the Awami League are baseless.’
