BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has commented that reforms and elections are being brought face to face. He said that BNP proposed reforms two to two and a half years ago. That is when it talked about changing this system. Tarique Rahman said this while speaking as the chief guest at the Iftar Mahfil of the 12-party alliance at a restaurant in Malibagh in the capital on Saturday.
Tarique Rahman said, ‘The main goal or objective of our politics is the country and the people of the country. The losses that have been caused to the country and the people, the political parties must change those losses when the opportunity comes. And we called this change the repair of the state structure.’ He said, ‘We had proposed reforms two to two and a half years ago, ignoring the bloodshot eyes of dictatorship. We said that this system should be changed.’
The BNP Acting Chairman said, ‘Some people are saying that reforms will be completed, then elections will be held. I personally believe that all the work that has been completed cannot be reformed. This is actually an ongoing process.’
Tareque Rahman, highlighting the BNP’s 31-point reform agenda, said that since 2008, the fascist and mafia government had been sitting on the shoulders of the people. He said, ‘It completely destroyed every institution, be it the economic system, the education system, the social system, the administration, the civil administration, the police administration; every sector, including the medical system. The whole situation was completely contrary to people’s expectations.
Tareque Rahman said, for a common man, democracy means elections. The system of impartial, fearless voting is democracy. It is a common or recognized democracy worldwide. He said, ‘The unity with which we bid farewell to dictatorship must be maintained. We will make our utmost efforts to establish the democracy expected by the people of the country by maintaining unity in the coming days. We will implement the reform process expected by the people of this country through discussions together.’
