The government has revised the 65-day fishing ban in Bangladeshi waters. From now on, from April 15 to June 11, fishing of any species by all types of fishing vessels has been banned for a total of 58 days.
In addition to reducing the period to 58 days, the ban has been made in line with neighboring country India. The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock issued a notification in this regard last Sunday. The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock gave this information in a notification on Wednesday (March 19).
It said that the government has declared a 58-day ban on fishing of any species in Bangladeshi maritime waters for the proper reproduction, production of fish, conservation of marine fish resources and sustainable fishing. A notification signed by H. M. Khalid Iftekhar, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, was recently issued in this regard by order of the President.
The notification states that, by virtue of the powers conferred by clause (a) of sub-rule (1) of rule 3 of the Marine Fisheries Rules, 2023, the government hereby prohibits fishing of any species by all types of fishing vessels for a total of 58 days from April 15 to June 11 every year for the purpose of proper reproduction, production, conservation of marine fish resources and sustainable fishing in the maritime waters of Bangladesh.
