When you are bored in the middle of work, there are some beautiful places outside Dhaka where you can spend some enjoyable moments to refresh yourself. One such enjoyable place is the unique architectural monument of the Nawabi period, Ghaseti Begum’s Kuthibari.
The story behind Ghaseti Begum’s Kuthibari
Ghaseti Begum’s Kuthibari is located 36 kilometers from the district town and 9 kilometers from the upazila town. It is said that Ghaseti Begum, the daughter of Nawab Alivardi Khan of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa, built this Kuthibari about 280 years ago. According to her, it is known as ‘Ghaseti Begum’s Kuthibari’. There is no inscription indicating the construction period of this Kuthibari.
How to get there
It is easy to get from Dhaka by road and water. By road, you can reach Kalaiya Port Bus Stand in Baufal by Chairman Paribahan, Antara Paribahan, Moon Paribahan, Kings Paribahan and Dolphin Paribahan. The fare per person is 600 taka. The distance from Kalaiya Bus Stand to Kuthibari is about 9 kilometers. Kuthibari is in front of Shaula Rahim Talukder’s house on Kalaiya-Shaula bogie road. The fare per person by auto rickshaw is 50 taka.
By water, a launch leaves Dhaka Sadar Ghat for Kalaiya every day at 6 pm. MV Bandhan, Dhulia and Eagle launches operate on the route. The fare per deck is 600 taka. Single cabin is 1200 taka, double cabin is 2200 taka. The distance from Kalaiya Launch Ghat to Kuthibari is eight kilometers. The fare per person by auto rickshaw is 50 taka.
Stay and Eat
There are hotels serving Bengali and Chinese food in Kalaiya Port. For accommodation, there is a residential hotel called Moon Star on Falpatti Road in the port. The cost of accommodation and food is affordable.
