'I will not do politics anymore'

Former State Minister for Industries of the ousted Awami League government, Kamal Ahmed Majumder, has told the court that he will no longer do politics. He has also resigned from the Awami League membership. Kamal Majumder said these words before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka on Monday morning. Kamal Majumder and six others were produced before the CMM Court today in the Atiqul Islam murder case filed at the capital’s Kafrul Police Station.

‘I will not do politics from today’

It was 10:02 am today. The judge had not yet come to the court. At that time, Kamal Majumder was angrily asking his lawyer why his bail was not being sought in the Judge’s Court and the High Court? In the meantime, the judge came to the court.

After a while, Judge Anisul Haque, Salman F Rahman told Kamal Majumder that you have been arrested in a murder case of Kafrul Police Station. Your name is in the statement of this case. Before he could finish speaking, Kamal Majumder started telling the judge, Honorable Court, I am now 76 years old. I am a diabetic patient. The prison authorities are not even allowing me to take a diabetic measuring machine.

We are not being allowed to talk to our lawyer. I will not engage in politics anymore. I have also resigned from the Awami League membership. One case after another is being filed against me. Arrests are being shown in one case after another. Torture is being done. At this age, we are supposed to be playing with our grandchildren.
