Lakhs of teachers in trouble over salaries

The month of Ramadan is ahead. I have not received my salary for January yet. It has become difficult to run my family. This is what Asadullah Miyaji, a teacher from Noakhali, said in a tone of helplessness. He said, I cannot lend money to people or go to another profession. My house rent is one month late. I have to pay installments. I can no longer continue on loans. I have to buy medicine for two thousand taka every month. I am also in arrears at the pharmacy.

February is also over. About three and a half lakh teachers and employees of private schools and colleges under MPO have not yet received their January salaries. Officials say that this abnormality in salaries may continue until April. And the January salaries will be received within one to two working days. The government has started paying salaries through a new process. Teachers are being paid through Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT). Earlier, salaries were paid through the analog system. They used to face various sufferings through this. Teachers and employees who provided accurate information are waiting for their salaries. But many could not upload their names to the server because they could not provide accurate and consistent information. Maushi is also in trouble.

Maushi says that it is a new process. That is why there is some delay. Maushi has sent a letter to the Ministry of Education. The salary will be paid only after the clearance is passed from there. According to ministry sources, the application for January’s salary has been passed. However, the EFT cell has not yet started working on February’s salary.
