National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz is speaking Leaders of two political parties are in dialogue with the National Consensus Commission. These include the Khilafat Majlis and the Labor Party. The meeting began on Saturday (March 22) morning at the LD Hall of the Parliament House. National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz and officials of the commission are present. However, it could not be confirmed which leaders of the political parties attended the meeting. The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) held a meeting with the commission on the first day last Thursday.
A six-member delegation led by LDP President Retired Colonel Oli Ahmed participated in that meeting. The party said that they agreed with 120 of the 166 recommendations of the Consensus Commission on the reform issue. They did not agree with 42. The National Consensus Commission was formed under the chairmanship of Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, to form a national consensus on the reform issue. The activities of the commission began on February 15.
Among the reform commissions formed in the first phase, the Constitutional Reform Commission, Public Administration Reform Commission, Electoral Reform Commission, Judiciary Reform Commission and Anti-Corruption Commission were requested to provide their specific views on the important recommendations mentioned in the report of the reform commission by March 13. Many of these parties have presented their views to the National Consensus Commission. BNP has asked for time next week.
After the Awami League government was ousted from power on August 5 in a student-public uprising, the interim government that took charge of the country formed 11 commissions in two phases to reform various sectors of the state for a democratic transition. Of these, the reports of six commissions in the first phase were published last February.
