A court has acquitted eight accused, including BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and Lutfuzzaman Babar, in a case of accepting a bribe of Tk 21 crore in order to exempt Bashundhara Group director Sabbir’s murder case accused Safiat Sobhan Sanvir from liability.
A Dhaka court judge announced the verdict on Thursday (March 20).
As a result, there are no more cases against Tarique Rahman and Babar in the trial court, lawyers said. With this, Tarique Rahman will no longer face any obstacles in his return to politics.
