190 Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia have not been paid for three months. The workers, who are victims, allege that a Malaysian ceramic former and special glove mold manufacturing factory has not paid them overtime for the past five months, including three months’ salary. Andy Hall said, “These workers who came to Malaysia hoping to work have spent a huge amount of money on the recruitment process and are now falling into a debt trap without receiving their salaries.”

The workers at this factory located in southern Malaysia have been facing irregular salary problems since 2023. Many have been forced to take loans from banks or borrow money from relatives so that they can pay the recruitment fee. The recruitment fee for each worker was about 25,000 ringgit (Malaysian currency), which they are still struggling to pay.

The workers allege that they have been kept in poor housing. They are not allowed to keep their passports with them. A group of workers recently filed a complaint with the Malaysian Department of Labor regarding this incident. Labor rights activist Andy Hall said he had discussed the workers’ situation with local and international buyers, and the company promised to pay outstanding wages by the end of this month.
