The char areas of Feni.

The vast char area built along the banks of the Feni River in the southern part of Sonagazi in Feni has been occupied by local influential people in the name of fish farming. As a result, hundreds of cattle, buffalo and sheep farmers living in the char area have lost their grazing land and are in trouble. On the other hand, due to the encroachment of the river and canal, hundreds of fishermen and fishing families in the fishing villages are living a helpless and inhuman life, unable to leave their original profession and engage themselves in other professions.

According to multiple sources including local residents, char area farmers, coastal fishermen, and related sources, as a result of the implementation of the project to straighten the curved river of the Big Feni River in 2012, thousands of acres of new chars have accumulated on both banks of the Feni River. With the emergence of new chars, the scenery of the char area in the southern part of Sonagazi has changed in a short period of time. A ray of hope has emerged.

Farmers in the char area said that the meat and milk of cows, buffaloes and sheep from the char area farms have been meeting the food needs of a large population in the region. If the char area of Sonagazi disappears, there will be a meat and milk crisis for a large population in the Feni, Noakhali and Chittagong regions. As a result, it will have a huge impact on the national economy. The wheels of the country’s economy will come to a standstill.
