Several students held a protest march under the banner of Sadharan at Dhaka University (DU) late at night. They held the march late on Tuesday (March 11). During this, they protested the attack on the police as part of the ‘Bangladesh Against Rape and Atrocities’ program.
The march left the university’s Halpara around 12:30 am and ended at Shahbagh. The students, who took a stand there, said that the attack on the police was an attempt to push the country towards an unstable environment.
Earlier, the capital’s academic and highways were in turmoil in protest against the trial of rapists and violence against women. On Tuesday, an organization called Bangladesh Against Rape and Atrocities marched from DU’s Raju Sculpture towards the residence of the chief advisor, but the police stopped them. The police stopped them at the Hotel Intercontinental intersection. At that time, when the protesters tried to break the barricade and go towards the Jamuna, a scuffle broke out. At one stage, the police charged with batons. Earlier, students demanded the resignation of the Law and Home Affairs Advisor for failing to prevent violence during the sit-in.
Earlier, students from various schools and colleges held a sit-in in Shahbagh from noon. They blocked the intersection for a while and made various demands, including an ultimatum for speedy trial of those responsible for the rape. They also alleged that these incidents are recurring due to lack of justice.
