The holy month of Ramadan is underway. Eid is coming. Shopping is increasing with the main religious festival of Muslims in mind. Therefore, expatriate Bangladeshis are sending more and more money, keeping in mind the additional expenses of their families.

The latest data from the Central Bank says that expatriates have sent remittances worth 814.3 million US dollars in the first 8 days of this March. At the current exchange rate of Bangladeshi currency (123 taka per dollar), this figure is more than 10 thousand crore taka. If the current trend continues, central bank officials expect a record amount of expatriate income to come in by the end of the month.

In the current fiscal year 2024-25, remittances of $191.377 million were received in July, $222.132 million in August, $240.41 million in September, $239.5 million in October, $2.22 billion in November, $2.64 billion in December, $219 million in January, and $2.52 billion in February. This means that more than two billion remittances have come to Bangladesh in the seven consecutive months since the current interim government took office.
