Garment workers have blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Tongi, Gazipur, demanding arrears of wages. This has caused a severe traffic jam on the highway. Numerous passengers have been inconvenienced. Police have been deployed to control the situation. Authorities have declared a holiday in several nearby factories to avoid any untoward incident. Workers of the BSIS factory in the Ershadnagar area of ​​Tongi blocked the highway on Tuesday (March 11) morning.

Gazipur Industrial Zone-2 Police Superintendent AKM Zahirul Islam confirmed the blockade. The workers’ blockade has caused a long traffic jam on both sides of the road. This has put office-going passengers in extreme danger. Upon receiving the information, the police have reached the spot and are trying to convince the workers to move them off the road.

Gazipur Industrial Zone-2 Police Superintendent AKM Zahirul Islam said that the factory workers are protesting by blocking the road demanding payment of arrears of wages and alleging that workers were beaten up. Police and other law enforcement officers are working at the scene to bring the situation under control.
