A three-month-old baby named Arman Jawad died after being attacked by a wild elephant in Karnaphuli Upazila of Chittagong. The incident took place at around 1 am on Saturday (March 22) in Shahmirpur Jamadar Para area of Ward No. 5 of Boro Uthan Union of the upazila. The deceased child is the son of Mohammad Ibrahim of the area. The child’s mother Khajima Begum (30) was seriously injured in the incident. He is currently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College (CMCH) Hospital.
Mohammad Ibrahim, the father of the deceased child, said, “A wild elephant attacked my house at night. The three-month-old child died. My wife was seriously injured in the elephant attack. She is currently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Doctors said her condition is critical.
Protesting the death of a three-month-old child in an elephant attack, the relatives of the child and the locals have been protesting with the body of the deceased child by blocking the Karnaphuli PAB road in the Daulatpur School area since 6 am on Saturday. The people of the area are holding this protest program demanding an end to the elephant attacks. Due to the blockade, traffic on PAB Road has been stopped. This has created severe traffic jams on both sides of the road. Even thousands of workers working at KPZ are suffering. Around 10 am, the protesters performed the funeral of the deceased child on the road.
