Bangladesh has won the bronze medal for the second time in the Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship. The Bangladesh women’s kabaddi team defeated Thailand 42-27 points in their last match of Group ‘A’ held in Tehran, Iran yesterday to secure a place in the semi-finals. With this, the red-green representatives were assured of bronze for the second time in the tournament.

Shahnaz Parveen Malekara had last won bronze jointly with Sri Lanka in the first edition in 2005. Although the Kabaddi Federation said in its notification that this is the first medal win for Bangladeshi women in the Asian Kabaddi Championship.

However, the current committee is trying to take all the credit for the first bronze win by stirring up controversy. Former general secretary of Kabaddi Munir Hossain has passed away. Another former general secretary Nazrul Islam also does not attend the federation now. Despite winning so many medals in events like the Asian Games, South Asian Games, and Asian Beach Games, the Kabaddi Federation does not have any database (archive). As a result, sports writers rely on Wikipedia to find out about Kabaddi medal wins in various games and international events. Due to the lack of a database, even current officials cannot say when and where Bangladesh won medals in Kabaddi in any international event. As a result, they are providing incorrect information.
