Dr Khalilur Rahman, High Representative on the Rohingya Problem and Priority Issues to Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has announced that an international-standard specialized hospital will be built in Bangladesh with Chinese investment.
Khalilur Rahman said that the Chinese government agreed to construct the hospital following a request from the Bangladesh government, speaking at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Sunday. Construction is expected to begin soon.
When asked why the government is not establishing such a hospital despite thousands of Bangladeshis traveling abroad for medical treatment, Khalilur Rahman explained that during his visit to Kunming last December, he discussed the issue with China’s Minister of Cooperation. At that time, he requested the identification of hospitals in China where Bangladeshi patients could receive quality treatment.
In response, Chinese authorities swiftly designated four hospitals for Bangladeshi patients. Khalilur Rahman personally visited one of them, the First People’s Hospital. On March 10, a Bangladeshi medical team traveled there for treatment.
He noted that Kunming is only a two-hour flight from Bangladesh and offers excellent medical facilities. The press briefing was also attended by Ashiq Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), and Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
