Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has directed the commercial launch of Starlink’s satellite broadband internet service in Bangladesh within 90 days. The Press Wing informed that the Chief Advisor had given such instructions to the concerned on Tuesday (March 25). Although Starlink used its foreign satellite broadband gateway for the test broadcast, the company will use the local broadband gateway or IIG in accordance with the NGSO policy while providing commercial services in Bangladesh.
On March 23, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun said in a press conference that the use of Starlink internet will start in the country from April 9.
Earlier, on March 8, Faiz Ahmed Tayyab, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on Postal, Telecommunication and Information Technology, said that a delegation from Starlink is on a visit to Bangladesh. During this visit, agreements were signed with various Bangladeshi organizations to cooperate in launching Starlink internet services in Bangladesh.
